A pregnant pause...
This is the second post of the day, if you haven't read anything here in a little while, I'd highly recommend you read the next entry first, it sets up and prefaces this one.
In a nutshell, the kernel at the heart of the "big news" is that it appears that my years of philandering have finally caught up with me. All those years of dodged bullets and near misses, I was due...I should have known, really. On my last visit to Chicago late November of last year, I had a dalliance with a girl I met through a friend of a friend, and I'm told that said woman is in a gravid state, or "with child", as they say. It further appears that she's waited until now to make me aware of this situation because she herself wasn't completely certain of my paternity. I was just the least likely (or the least promising,) so the other (s) was(were) told/confronted/eliminated first, thus leaving me as the sole remaining would-be "winner".
The plus side is that this isn't all unfolding on an episode of Springer or Maury with the entirety of the nation's unemployed laughing at me, causing them to feel better about themselves at my expense. Also on the upside, I think she said it's a girl; can't say I'd recovered enough from the initial shock by then to recall with a hundred percent certainty though.
Immediate plans will be to converse with said girl, possibly in-depth, and in a life-altering way, explore our options, but I'm afraid that "doing the right thing" will be a heavily favoured lead candidate. On the plus side, maybe she'll be like-minded, and we'll be able to visit Charlotte on the weekends.
The irony of my past penchant for dismissing and even making light of so-called "shotgun weddings" is all too apparent, so y'all will likely be invited to thesentencing ceremony, but easy with the jokes, yeah?
More soon...
